A PROPER LOCAL

A Proper Local focuses upon the celebration of the traditional working class pub. The dwindling number of pubs has been a topical issue for over twenty years. A profession that was once a single person’s or family’s livelihood has become monopolised by major trade companies and therefore adapted to be in keeping with modern chain establishments. Changed attitude towards alcohol consumption, health, and socialising are also partly accountable for the shift in trade. This body of work is exclusively centralised around the Mount Pleasant Pub in Sheffield. Ran by current landlord Stuart for over twenty years, it is frequented by a devoted handful of punters, some of which have been familiar with the pub since the 1950s. A Proper Local retells the rich history of the establishment and celebrates that this business is still very much in the heart of the landlord, and the local community.
